LREMS Responds to Downtown Structure Fire

LREMS personnel responded to assist Lumberton Fire Department with a commercial building fire in downtown Lumberton on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. First due units reported smoke showing, and a second alarm was called. All stations responded, as well as Robeson County Stations 7 and 16. LREMS personnel set up rehab for firefighters and refilled SCBA bottles using the cascade system on our heavy rescue truck. Three firefighters received minor injuries when part of the second floor collapsed. Another firefighter was transported by a LREMS paramedic ambulance to Southeastern Health for smoke inhalation. The fire was called under control after an hour, and firefighters remained on scene until the early evening doing salvage and overhaul. The origin of the fire is being investigated by the Lumberton Police Department, State Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
